Day 1 - Arrive in Siem Reap

Upon arrival at Siem Reap International Airport, you will be welcomed by your local English speaking guide who will accompany and explain the entire program you to your hotel for check in (Note: based on morning/midday arrivals).

Siem Reap is the gateway to the majestic temples of Angkor and a charming riverside town.

Take a rest from your flight at the hotel or discover Siem Reap on a stroll through its beautiful pagodas and the colourful market this morning.

In the afternoon begin your exploration of the Angkorian temples. Your first visit is to the famous Angkor Wat.Built during the reign of King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century, Angkor Wat is constructed following the model of the temple mountain symbolizing Mount Meru, the home of the gods. Inside the temple, the walls are covered with stone carvings and bas-reliefs depicting Hindu mythology and the wars Suryavarman II fought during his reign. Angkor Wat is well known for the more than 2,000 Apsara dancers decorating the temple. Construction is thought to have taken around thirty years of intensive labor. Today, Angkor Wat is figured on Cambodia's national flag as the temple symbolizes the soul of the Khmer people.

During sunset time, Angkor Wat is less visited, and the Apsaras will shine in the most beautiful light. Return to your hotel.

Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 2 - Siem Reap (B)

After breakfast, discover some of the other main Angkor sites. First, head to the ancient city of Angkor Thom. Angkor Thom was the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire under the reign of Jayavarman VII. This city is surrounded by an 8 m high wall drawing a perfect square. You will enter the city from the ancient South Gate, an impressive stone gate carved with Elephants and four giant faces.

From here, continue to Bayon Temple in the exact center of the city. This 12th century masterpiece is a study in grandeur and is well-known for its 54 towers with enigmatic faces representing the 54 provinces of the Great Khmer Empire. The Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King are also must-visits as they are both known for their intricate bas-reliefs. Stroll through the grounds of the former Royal Palace to discover some small hidden temples that are rarely visited.

Return to the hotel where there is time to take a break and perhaps cool down in the swimming pool.

This afternoon explore a few of the Grand Circuit Temples. Begin at Ta Som, a Buddhist temple built under Jayavarman VII. The temple has been left largely unrestored with numerous trees and vegetation growing amongst the ruins including a sacred fig tree strangling one of the entrance gates.

From Ta Som begin a visit to a community project set up to protect and preserve the natural and cultural heritage of Baray Reach Dak, the park’s newly flooded north reservoir. The baray (artificial body of water) was only recently re-flooded in 2007 after heavy rainfall. Appreciate the nature of the baray with a walk through the forest accompanied by a community guide. You will also have the special experience of visiting Neak Poan temple, arriving as the ancient Khmer did by boat. The tour finishes at Preah.

Khan Temple, built approximately during the same period as Ta Prohm, and originally served both as a religious university and a temple. All aspects of the tour are run and managed by members of the community.

After return to your hotel where the evening is at leisure.

Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 3 - Siem Reap (B)

This morning, drive out of Siem Reap to the village of Pradak and set off for a ride to Banteay Samre via Phnom Bok via backroads and villages. You will pass through places where few tourists visit. Take the chance to stop and interact with the local community and learn about their way of life.

After continue by car/ van to see the “gem” of the Angkor area, the pretty temple of Banteay Srei. The so-called “Citadel of the Women” remains the best preserved temple in Cambodia. It displays some of the finest examples of classical Khmer art as this small temple is noted for its truly remarkable fine bas-reliefs. Banteay Srei is unique in that it is constructed of pink sandstone, which is seen nowhere else in Angkor. Stop at a local pagoda where Buddhist monks will celebrate a private blessing ceremony for you, wishing you health and a safe journey – a memorable experience!

After returning to your hotel get pampered and enjoy a relaxing at your hotel. The perfect treatment after an intensive discovery of the Angkor Temples.

After return to your hotel where the evening is at leisure.

Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 4 - Siem Reap - Departure (B)

This morning, embark on an interesting boat trip on Tonlé Sap Lake, where you will have the opportunity to learn about life on the lake. Tonlé Sap is South East Asia’s largest freshwater lake with its size varying greatly depending on the season, as it is swelling to about 4 times it size in during the wet season. Board a local boat and visit Kampong Phluck, a village where you will see houses on stilts that are submerged when Tonlé Sap Lake extends. On the way, you will pass floating houses and impressive flooded forests, portraying life on the water. (Note: Due to low water levels during the dry season, the boat trip is only possible from June to March. However an alternative floating village at Chong Kneas can be arranged instead).

Return to Siem Reap, where you can enjoy some time at leisure until your transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
